About
What is Greenwave?
We are an adaptable supplier of fresh produce from Western Idaho. We produce a wide variety of fruits and vegetables using organic farming practices, hydroponic growing, and greenhouses. Our methods blend time-tested traditional farming with judicious use of technology.
Our purpose is to serve the wider community of Idaho and Eastern Oregon by retaining the grand experience of American-produced food at American tables. Each year we learn new ways to serve year-round through our local farmer's market and our wholesale delivery network, providing seasonal and year-round produce from a prudent cycle of field crops and greenhouse gardening.
Our Story
Amos Wengerd was raised on a produce farm in Pennsylvania and often accompanied his father to farmers markets in New York City. Continuing this legacy, he developed a deep love for cultivating plants, enjoying fresh food, and sharing direct connections with customers.
After many visits to Idaho, he fell in love with state's charm and favorable agricultural conditions. During these visits, he also fell in love with Jenni Koehn, a native of New Plymouth, Idaho. In 2017, Amos and Jenni got married. In 2020, the couple moved to a small farm in Fruitland, Idaho.
Amos had long been intrigued by hydroponic farming, visiting greenhouses and expanding his knowledge over the years. When he identified a need for fresh greens year-round in the Treasure Valley, he started a greenhouse business wholesaling to local grocery stores.
The greenhouse operation was a success, but Amos never lost his passion for personable retail, so when the opportunity came to open a produce stand in Emmett, he and Jenni jumped at the chance—reviving the historic site of Sanders Fruit Ranch.
Local. Due to transportation costs and harvest times, local supply chains provide food with inherently higher quality for comparable prices. It also greatly benefits local economies and creates long-lasting community networks. As such, we endeavor to be part of the local food supply and to help others find a place within it.
Organic. Clean, healthy food is essential to a functional community. We offer a broad selection of organic produce throughout the year. Not all of the USA-grown produce we source for retail is organic, but we favor traditional farming practices which avoid taking shortcuts with chemicals.
Flavorful. Local food can be procured and sold far closer to peak freshness and ripeness, which grants it a superior flavor. Anyone who has eaten both a standard supermarket tomato and a vine-ripened tomato has experienced firsthand the value of respecting the biological processes which were designed to yield fruit.
Sustainable. Family farms and regional agricultural communities are meant to last. Anything which we do today must also possible for generations to come. We are mindful of what we are passing down and we work hard to improve our processes rather than to strip what we can from our land in the short term.
